This is Our Story

They say mission trips are life-changing, and I don’t know who exactly “they” are, but I know they’re right, because it only took one trip to give me a dream and a passion.

In the summer of 2017, I (Lauren) traveled on my first international mission trip to Tanzania, in eastern Africa. My team spent a week sharing Jesus and ministering in all kinds of ways, but one kind really stuck with me. We spent just one day working with a group of high school and college aged girls at an organization called Sifa Threads. These girls go through a two year training program where they're equipped with business and sewing skills, learn some English, and learn about Jesus and how to disciple others in their communities. They’re given hope, dreams, and a purpose in a culture where not much is expected of girls beyond becoming wives and mothers.

In their time there, they make things from pillow covers to scarves to jewelry that are sold in a small shop there and sent back to the U.S. to help fund the ministry. I came home from my trip knowing I needed to do something, and decided to start by selling some of those pretty handmade goods at my church. And somehow, that turned into the realization that there are many more groups just like Sifa Threads in countries all around the world who are making a difference and deserve to be shared in my community.

I started reaching out to some of these groups, invested a lot of time and savings into it, applied for nonprofit status, set up a tiny shop in a spare room at my church, and partnered with a few more groups who are all about improving the lives of others in more ways than one. Through the support and generosity of some incredible people, Project 43:19 (a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization) was born, and the New Things shop became a reality.

Our partner groups are the true world-changers in all of this, but we’re doing our part by not only supporting them financially in selling their goods, but generating awareness about their missions as well. So reach out to us, stop by and see us, and learn about the “new things” God is doing through these awesome ministries!

How We're Making the Improbable Possible

“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?

I am making a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”

- Isaiah 43:19

Around here, this particular verse means a lot to us. Just like God made a way for His chosen people, the Israelites, He’s making a way for His people today. So we celebrate the fact that a seemingly improbable goal has become a reality, not just here in our shop, but among the people and ministries we work with. You see, our artisan partners are men and women who the world might label hopeless. But God. He has transformed each of their lives by giving them hope and a purpose, not only in a new skill or trade, but in a new life with Him.

So what we do is all about building them up, encouraging their walks in faith, lifting them up in prayer, and ultimately empowering them to continue to make the improbable possible in their own lives and in the lives of others.

The Shop

The New Things shop is pretty much the face of this ministry. This is where you'll find beautifully crafted goods that make you think There's no way this is made by hand! and where you'll hear the stories behind all the pretty things! Here, you'll learn about ministries you've never heard of and all the good they're doing in their own corners of the world.

Artisan Partnerships

We partner with over twenty-five mission-minded artisan groups in over fifteen developing countries to sell their handmade goods in our shop and share about their ministries.

Giving Back

Since we're a nonprofit organization, our purpose is much more than just selling products. Our goal is to pour our profits back into our partner organizations, whether that's through purchasing a sewing machine to be used for a training program or sponsoring the health insurance of an artisan's family.

People of Passion

Founder & Executive Director

Lauren is a 2016 graduate of NC State University (go Wolfpack!), a part-time insurance guru/phone answerer/appointment scheduler/lab tech trainee/whatever else she needs to be at King Eye Center, and a full-time director at Project 43:19, Inc. In her free time, you can find her hanging out with family or friends who are basically family, eating BBQ and drinking Cheerwine, working on one of her many DIY projects, swimming at the Y, or out on an adventure of some kind, but most of the time you can find her in the New Things shop. She has a huge passion for seeing the Gospel spread to the end of the earth -

every tribe, tongue, and nation.

Money Gal & Team Motivator

Dawn is a Christian counselor by day and the giant push behind Project 43:19, Inc. and the New Things shop well, any other time of the day! She's wife to David, mom to Lauren and Leslie, and "adopted" mom and maw-maw to many others. In her free time, Dawn is a corn hole queen and a master chef, and she enjoys spending time with family and friends. She has a passion for people and is one of the best listeners out there, and she's a natural-born saleswoman (so watch out!) as well.
